July 3: Furthest Swim Yet

Today was my youngest daughter's 3rd birthday. After my workday was done, we all met at he house of one of the partners of PMV Technologies (the company I work for) to watch the annual fireworks.

Before heading out there, I decided to leave work a little early and get my individual swim practice in. After all, I had access to a pool right by their house.

It took me a while to get into a rhythm in my stroke, but I finally found it and successfully completed my 3000 yard assignment. That is the furthest that I've every swam. (1 mile equals 1650 yards.) I'm gaining confidence that the swim portion of the triathlon won't be an issue for me, and I believe that it may actually go pretty fast when the race day arrives.

My online coach, Rich, keeps helping us with our frame of mind in preparation for the race. The purpose of the swim, he says, is to get to the bike. The purpose of the bike is to get to the run. And the purpose of the run is to finish. Work on technique now, work on speed later, that will come. I'll buy that theory.
