July 26: What Will Tomorrow Bring?

After my serious efforts last weekend, first with the practice tri and then with the 5K race, I really overdid it with my shins, particularly with the left one. I haven't written anything about this until now because I really thought that this pain would have gone away by now, but it hasn't.

Even if I jog in place, I get a sharp shooting pain up my left shin, and that's not a good sign. I had talked with my coaches earlier in the week about it, and they said that until that pain goes away, I am to not run on it. That's just great...running is where I need the most help, and now I can't run. I'm very frustrated.

Tomorrow is our next team bike/run training. I am actually going to train with the West team at Kensington this time around. The course has more hills there, and I could use the practice on those. I'm guessing that my shin splint won't affect my biking. I certainly won't be running.

I think I'm going to schedule an appointment with a sports therapist, just so that I can get some guidance on this one. Come hell or high water, I don't want to let an injury keep me down, but I certainly don't want to be stupid and overtrain to the point that I have to scratch myself from this race. I'm so thankful that I still have two months left until the big day!

If anyone has any advice on what has worked for their shin splints, please email me. I could really use all of the information I can get my hands on. THANKS!
