May 11, 2007: I'd better get out of bed.

If you know me, you know I love sleep, even though I don't seem to get too much with all the things I have going on. So when the alarm went off at 5:30am, I wasn't too motivated to do anything, especially since I had forgotten to turn off the setting from having to wake up early the day before.

But then I thought to myself that I'm going to be faced with many days this summer where I am going to feel the same way, and I'll have to fight my way out of bed at that time, too. So better start now so I get used to it.

It turned out to be a beautiful morning for a run. Just above 60 degrees, bird chirping, whisps of clouds in the sky, daylight just creeping up over the horizon.

Off I went, iPod in hand and determined to run well today. The music got me going, as it often does. Today, I just hit shuffle and then play, and off I went. I love listening to music, and it takes the right song to get me off on the right foot.

First song, "Rubberband Man" by the Spinners. I liked that so much I replayed it 4 times before moving on. Then came "Friday I'm in Love" by the Cure. Another couple of replays. Here's a list of the rest of my playlist that day. Overall it was a nice mix to get me started on this venture.

- Back to the Life (Spoon)
- Id' Like That (XTC)
- Take It Back (Barenaked Ladies)
- Drive My Car, Live version (Paul McCartney)
- Distant Sun (Crowded House)
- Love My Way (Psychedelic Furs)

Interestingly, I ran by two rabbits and two pheasants. We don't see pheasants too often in our neck of the woods, but they are around. I'd say I see a one or two each year. So to see two in one day was pretty cool.

I loved ending with the Psychedelic Furs song. I played that twice, basically to hear the one line "You'll never win or lose if you never run the race." How appropriate.
