May 12, 2007: My Bike Purchase...Let's Roll!
If you have been keeping up with my posts, you will have learned that I need a bike in order to do this.
I do have a bike, but it's a 25-year-old steel 12-speed Schwinn. It's heavy, and probably not the choice bike to do this. So my husband Gary, who has done more than one double century in his time (that's a 200-mile cycling road race), helped me find an inexpensive upgrade to my old beast. Take a look!

It's a brand new 2007 Dawes Lightning 1000 road bike. It has a full aluminum double-butted frame with dura-fort fork; with Alex double wall aluminum rims, Shimano Sora 24-speed der with Shimano 3300 STI shifters, Kenda Kontender 700c tires, quick release wheels front and rear, aluminum alloy hubs, FSA Aluminum crank, aluminum alloy pedals including toe clips with straps, aluminum stem, aluminum handlebar, aluminum seatpost, aluminum side-pull brakes and levers, plus a very nice Velo Road bike seat.
Ok, I have no idea what the heck all of that means. I am just going to trust my husband (Gary) and my cycling coach (Kevin) on this one, in that it is a lot of bike for the $300 I spent. So it's a foreign knock-off. But I'm sure it will do the trick, and certainly fits my budget especially since other bikes comparable to this start at around $650.
At least I'll be styin' on the road!
